US 183 is a Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) funded project in Lockhart, Texas. SAM teamed with an engineering firm to provide SUE and Utility Coordination services. The project runs through the middle of Lockhart and involves adding a two-way, center turn lane from Pecan St. to Industrial/MLK Blvd. SAM’s utility coordination efforts included reviewing design plans for water, wastewater, power, telephone, cable TV, and gas utilities to ensure that all conflicts with the proposed road widening were mitigated. Project challenges included helping the water and wastewater designer find space for relocating approximately 2000′ of underground lines to avoid proposed drainage. No right-of-way was purchased for the project and SAM worked with both City designers and private utility companies to find a solution.
