SAM Companies has been awarded four direct contracts by a national telecommunications company to provide OSP Engineering and permitting services using the latest LiDAR technology for over 40 miles of new fiber optic cable in the suburbs of Atlanta. This new backbone fiber will enhance network reliability and resilience, helping the client meet their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals and, ultimately, improve customer service.
SAM Fiber Engineering Department Manager David Wagoner said, “After years of working with this client and consistently providing timely and quality service, we are confident in our ability to achieve the desired route designs. We look forward to leveraging our expertise to provide better network service to the community.”
SAM was chosen based on our past experience handling large projects and successfully securing permit approvals for this telecommunications company. In addition, SAM’s multi-service approach will be crucial to completing this project. While our Atlanta Fiber Engineering group will take the lead, our Aerial Mapping group will provide support services. The Aerial Mapping Group will use SAM’s Cessna Grand Caravan EX, fully equipped with the REIGL VQ-1560 II LiDAR sensor, to document the terrain for an accurate land base on which to found our fiber design route.
We will be submitting and managing both state and city permits for this project. Once permitting is secure and the project is completed, the telecommunications company will be able to expand its network. This endeavor paves the way for laterals to be built off this backbone path to cell towers and other customers, improving service even further.
