On April 23, Tyler Junior College (TJC) presented SAM Companies’ President and CEO, Chris Solomon, RPLS, with the college’s highest awards: the Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Presidential Honoree Medallion.
“The signature of authenticity for our institution is our alumni. So, tonight, we are going to award very special medallions to these honorees,” said TJC President and CEO Dr. Juan E. Mejia. “TJC has been around for almost 100 years, and there are less than ten medallions that have been given to anyone.”
Mr. Solomon, who graduated from the TJC Surveying and Geomatics Program in 1993, said that TJC’s direction and solid foundation, coupled with the strong work ethic and drive to succeed instilled in him by his parents, have shaped his career.
“I am honored to receive these recognitions,” said Mr. Solomon. “SAM and TJC have a very special relationship. Both organizations have evolved greatly over the years, adapting to new technologies and processes as they are created. We know TJC is a source we can count on to find the best and the brightest and bring them onto our team.”
In 1994, Mr. Solomon began his career with SAM Companies. He advanced through multiple levels of the organization, gaining experience in the field, leading the company’s expansion into new market sectors, and taking on the mantle of President and CEO in 2017. Today, SAM Companies is the largest geospatial and construction services firm in the country, with a long record of successful growth and over 30 offices across the U.S.
In her introduction of Mr. Solomon, TJC’s Director of Alumni Relations, Susan Farrington, said, “Mr. Solomon is the President and CEO of SAM Companies, and [SAM] has managed to win one of the Austin Business Community’s most coveted awards for ten years in a row – the Best Place to Work Award. That tells you a lot about Mr. Solomon as a leader and as a person.”
