Rob Crowson’s primary focus is in Structures Lead on CE&I projects and other related endeavors.  Rob is a Structures Subject Matter Expert for the company, and field calls on a number of issues that SAM encounters during inspection services. After studying engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, he was formally trained in Bridge Design at TxDOT’s Bridge Division from 1996 through 2000.  He then focused on highway construction with particular interest in structures, retaining walls, embankments, lighting, signals, stripping, and traffic controls for the last 23 years, both with TxDOT– from which he retired in 2012–and SAM. He has personally designed over 50 structures, overseen the design of another 150+ structures, and been involved with the construction of over 200+ additional structures, in addition to the construction of TxDOT projects totaling over $3.5 billion.

Personally, Rob is proficient in residential construction, including concrete foundations, framing, wiring, plumbing, cabinet construction, and trim carpentry.  During Covid, he added 800 square feet to the 100-year-old house he resides in, as well as completely renovating it. Not surprisingly, he receives frequent requests from friends and family to assist in similar projects. A fervent traveler, Rob and his wife have been to England, Italy, France, Turkey, and Greece just this year, making up for their lack of travel due to Covid. They will also be in Mexico before this year’s end, and are making plans for trips to Spain, Portugal, England, and Canada in 2024.

Rob’s favorite core value is People. He often lends his time and expertise to junior engineers and inspectors, teaching them the subtleties of bridge and roadway construction and inspection that he has learned through the years. He finds it deeply rewarding to see junior personnel develop into senior engineers and inspectors through this mentoring process.
