James Callenius

Associate, Engineering Inspection Services, Houston

James has over 40 years of roadway and bridge construction experience.  Currently serving as an Associate and Senior Construction Manager for SAM-CS, James works mostly within the Houston area, overseeing project proposals, inspections, trainings, fleet safety and maintenance, compliance, and project oversight. Depending on the type of project, his duties vary widely, including reviewing and addressing any project complaints from the public, monitoring utility relocations, and coordinating with local contractors, departments, local businesses, and other entities to ensure all needs are met and input is heard. James has multiple construction certifications, some of which include TRF 450-453 Electrical, Signals, Lighting, ACI, Traffic Control, Soils, Base Materials, Asphalt, Concrete Paving, Utilities, Construction Safety, First Aid, OSHA, and HAZ-MAT.

He enjoys passing on his many decades of experience to others, including clients and colleagues, and spending one-on-one time with them in the field. Being able to mentor, encourage, and help others grow in the construction field brings him great pleasure, and he takes pride in being able to see a successful job through to the end.

James and his wife have 5 children and 2 grandchildren, who they are currently raising. They are active in their local youth sports, especially football and baseball, as well as enjoying the outdoors through boating and fishing. He is active in the community, serving as an HOA Board Director. James is also former military (USMC) honorable discharge.
