SAM’s Proprietary Technology Helps Drive New GIS/Web Application Contract

February 4, 2021

SAM has been awarded a contract with the City of North Liberty, Iowa to provide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and web application development. SAM will use Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate, inventory, and map the city’s sanitary sewer and water distribution systems, and provide manhole inspections on sanitary sewer structures. SAM will then utilize the data gathered to design and implement a customized, web-based GIS and asset management application for the city.

The City of North Liberty, IA is the fastest-growing municipality in eastern Iowa, having grown 250% since 2000, and needs a reliable, accurate, and easy to use system to support a continuously growing infrastructure. SAM was chosen for our ability to provide accurate data and produce an application that integrates with current city-owned hardware and software and is tailored to North Liberty’s needs as a growing municipality. SAM will use Real-Time Kinematic Survey Grade GPS and the latest Esri technologies to build the application with precise locations of the city’s sewer and distribution system. Field staff and office staff will both be able to access operational tracking, manage assets, as well as visualize real-time data to make data-driven decisions for the city.

“SAM has been at the forefront of GIS development in Iowa and across the Midwest,” said SAM Office Manager, Kirk Larson. “North Liberty has a dedicated staff and council that understand the value of accuracy and quality of a GIS application investment. We are thrilled to partner with the city on this project to develop accurate data and an easy to use program that will support the needs of their growing community.”
