SAM Seeks Merger and Acquisition Partners

September 13, 2019

For 25 years, SAM has provided innovative geospatial data solutions and construction phase services for oil and gas, transportation, electric transmission and distribution, and telecommunications clients. What started as a regional surveying and mapping company with one office in Austin, Texas has grown into a diversified national organization with 30 offices across the country offering land surveying, airborne, mobile and terrestrial LiDAR, aerial mapping, GIS, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), utility coordination, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and construction phase services.

SAM’s growth in both additional service offerings and geographic footprint is the result of a combination of organic initiatives and acquisitions. Over the past three years, we have strategically partnered with strong management teams through the completion of four acquisitions to help propel our organization’s expansion, and we are actively searching for firms to acquire to join our growing enterprise.

  • In 2016, SAM acquired So-Deep, Inc., a leading provider of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services headquartered in Manassas Park, Virginia. The acquisition leveraged the combined strengths of two AEC industry leaders to greatly enhance project value for clients and expand SAM’s geographic footprint to the East Coast of the U.S.
  • In 2018, SAM acquired Nobles Consulting Group, Inc. (NGC), a leading provider of professional surveying services across the Southeast region. The investment enabled SAM to continue expanding our geographic range in the southeast while providing the Nobles team resources and expertise to expand its service offerings to its client base.
  • In early 2019, SAM acquired Haag 3D Solutions (H3DS), a division of Haag Engineering Company, further diversifying our services and growing our presence in the Northeast. H3DS was an innovator in 3D Laser Scanning and Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the AEC industry. Post-acquisition, SAM continues to serve H3DS markets and clients but now has given the H3DS team the opportunity to provide these services across SAM’s nation-wide footprint.
  • Most recently, in November 2019 SAM completed the acquisition of JMC Professional Surveying and Mapping, LLC (JMC). With offices in Nashville and Knoxville, Tennessee, JMC has provided a full range of surveying services across the southeast U.S. for more than a decade. This acquisition helped further expand SAM’s geographic reach and service offerings.

With the most advanced technology in our industry, ample financial resources, strong corporate services, training and development capabilities and back office support, SAM is looking to partner with talented management teams that are entrepreneurial, possess similar core values and are interested in expanding their growth potential. If you represent an AEC service firm specializing in surveying, SUE, Construction Engineering Inspection (CEI), aerial mapping, or services similar to SAM, and are looking for a partner to help your company grow, we are interested in learning more about your firm.
