Surveying And Mapping, Inc. Expands U.S. Service Offerings with Mobile Mappering Solution

Surveying And Mapping, Inc. (SAM, Inc.), a provider of custom surveying and mapping services, today announced that it has added a Mobile LiDAR solution to its broad inventory of state-of-the-art surveying and mapping technologies.

The non-invasive, state-of-the-art Mobile Mapping solution utilizes an Optech LYNX mobile LiDAR system, and is ideal for civil engineering firms and government agencies managing rail, transportation, pipeline, waterway, electric transmission lines and design-build projects. It incorporates the most advanced ground-based LiDAR (Light and Detection and Ranging) sensors, digital cameras and a GPS navigation system to quickly and accurately collect survey-quality point data for corridor projects throughout the U.S.

Benefits of Mobile LiDAR include:

  • Cost-savings : This advanced mapping technology can gather all required data point measurements in one setting, eliminating the need for additional mobilization costs.
  • Time-savings : SAM, Inc.’s Mobile Mapping solution collects up to 400,000 points per second, compared to one point every few seconds with traditional survey technologies.
  • Enhanced accuracy : The Mobile Mapping solution provides designers with a more “complete” picture of the project – with highly-accurate point density measurements and the ability to locate features that are inaccessible with current technology.
  • Increased Safety : The Mobile Mapping solution also provides increased safety for project personnel and the general public because data can be collected remotely, day or night, eliminating the need for traffic diversion caused by traditional surveying activities.

Compared to traditional survey methods, SAM, Inc.’s Mobile Mapping solution can provide data density spacing from 0.01 foot. The system utilizes two 360-degree LiDAR sensors, two 5-mega pixel cameras, two GPS receivers, and an Inertial Measuring Unit (IMU).

“This Mobile LiDAR solution complements our integrated approach to data collection and will enable SAM, Inc. to continue to build upon our reputation as a knowledgeable and customer-focused consultant,” said Sam Hanna, president, SAM, Inc. “We are pleased to now offer the Mobile LiDAR solution to our clients across the U.S., providing them with the best surveying and mapping technologies and services in the market.”
