SAM Expands Advanced UAS Training with “Operation Toolkit”

August 5, 2022

SAM Companies is excited to announce that we have launched Operation Toolkit, a training initiative that greatly expands our comprehensive Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) training to SAM teams across the country. This initiative extends our already robust UAS and aerial mapping capabilities by significantly increasing the number of trained SAM crews and pilots that deliver LiDAR, thermal, multispectral, HD full-color, and video imagery solutions.

The program consists of both regional instructor training and field training for UAS pilots. After receiving their Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 certificate, SAM employees travel to a regional training center for operational instruction and safety drills. The course covers everything from principles of photogrammetry to assessing flight risk. Thirty-five pilots across 17 SAM offices have already completed the training. As part of our strategic growth plan, SAM will continue increasing the number of trained UAS pilots every year.

These UAS pilots will bolster SAM’s industry-leading aerial mapping services to support reliable planning, design, and construction work across a wide range of industries. Our fleet of over 100 UAS, ability to scale resources, national presence, and dedicated project management enable us to provide UAS services efficiently and cost-effectively across the country.
