SAM-Construction Services (SAM-CS) announced today that it has been selected by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Strategic Projects Division and the North Tarrant Expressway Mobility Partners to provide Independent Engineering and oversight services for a section of the freeway on I-35W, from I-30 to I-820 Loop in Fort Worth, Texas.
Under the terms of the agreement, SAM-CS will act on behalf of TxDOT and the developer for the roadway expansion operation. The firm will provide monitoring, reviewing, inspection, testing, reporting, auditing, and other oversight functions to assess the developer’s performance of the work and ensure that all TxDOT requirements are met.
The project is notable because it is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) and requires the least amount of disruption to the managed lanes and the urban area around the site.
In making the announcement, lead project manager for SAM-CS, Brett Smith, PE, said, “We are delighted to be providing expertise in transportation and quality management systems in this capacity for TxDOT and its partners.”
The contract defines a total construction cost of $1 billion. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and extend into 2018. The SAM-CS team will rely on a collaboration of multiple office locations for the project work.
