A Safer, Smarter Approach to FAC-008 Compliance

March 31, 2026

Facing the existing challenges to collect and document the information required to complete FAC-008 compliance, SAM has created a safety-first, outage-free method to identify and digitally deliver conductor attributes across the Bulk Electric System.

Using SAM’s patented zero-contact approach, our teams remotely measure unique conductor characteristics—without contacting energized equipment. By identifying the individual conductor, utilities can use manufacturers’ specifications to ensure FAC-008 compliance.

We’ve eliminated the need for climbing structures, bucket trucks, and manual caliper measurements, which have traditionally made this work more time-consuming, costly, and risky. Instead, SAM combines high-resolution cameras, certified photogrammetrists, and proprietary software to capture highly accurate measurements from up to 400 feet away. We’ve cut years off project timelines and kept people safely on the ground.

For utilities, the benefit is clear: improved safety in the field, faster collection of critical conductor data, greater confidence in compliance documentation, and a more scalable way to support FAC-008 programs across substations and transmission assets. This is exactly the kind of innovation reflected in SAM’s patent, developed through our FAC-008 and utility inspection program.

When accuracy, efficiency, and safety all matter, this is the better way to do it.
