Robby has more than 19 years of experience in airborne data collection, including over 14 years working extensively with Riegl LiDAR sensors and Phase One metric mapping cameras. He was trained and still works directly with the developers of these systems, bringing a deep, practical understanding of sensor capabilities, limitations, and real-world operational performance.

Robby Jones oversees aviation acquisition operations, guiding pilots, sensor operators, and acquisition managers to ensure safe, efficient, and technically sound data collection. He takes an operations-first approach, ensuring the aircraft, sensors, and project requirements align to deliver high-quality geospatial data.

Robby has flight planned, coordinated, and managed more than 6,500 hours of airborne data acquisition across both helicopter and fixed-wing platforms, supporting a wide range of projects including corridor mapping, large-area topographic surveys, and complex terrain acquisitions. His experience spans sensor integration, mission planning, airspace coordination, weather analysis, and execution of high-precision mapping missions under demanding operational constraints.

Safety is Robby’s favorite SAM core value and a cornerstone of the Aerial Acquisition team’s work. This commitment played a key role in achieving IS-BAO certification.
