Intership FAQ
What majors do you hire interns from?
We hire interns from a variety of backgrounds including Geomatics, Civil Engineering, GIS, Geography, Construction Management, and related technical programs. If you’re interested in mapping, surveying, or geospatial tech, we encourage you to apply.
How long is the internship program?
The Summer 2027 internship program will run from May 17, 2027 through August 6, 2027.
When does the application open?
Internship applications will open on November 16, 2026 and remain open through the spring semester until all roles are filled.
When do interviews take place?
Interviews typically begin in December and continue through April. We recommend applying early, as many positions fill before the final deadline.
Do interns work on real projects?
Yes – this is not a “watch and learn” program. Interns contribute to active projects and are trusted with meaningful work that supports real client deliverables.
What is the pay for interns?
Interns start at $20/hr., with opportunities for annual increases each time they return for another internship.
Is housing provided?
We offer housing accommodations for non-local interns joining SAM for the summer.
Will I receive a full-time offer after the internship?
While full-time offers are not guaranteed, SAM maintains a strong 47.2% intern-to-full-time conversion rate, and top-performing interns are often considered for full-time opportunities. The internship serves as a key pipeline into future roles at SAM.
What kind of training or support will I receive?
You’ll receive hands-on training, 1:1 mentorship from experienced professionals, and access to learning sessions through our Intern Insights program, along with leadership exposure throughout the internship.
Do interns get to meet leadership?
Yes – interns meet with the CEO and executive team during their first week and have ongoing opportunities to connect with SAM leaders throughout the program.
Is there a scholarship opportunity?
Yes. Interns have the opportunity to earn a $4,000 scholarship by participating in the Internship Capstone Competition
