Citywide Water Infrastructure Inventory Underway

Post Date: February 22, 2023 4:00 PM

The City of Fort Lauderdale has engaged a team of surveying companies to document the precise location of all of the City’s water infrastructure including:

  • water mains
  • valves
  • meters
  • fire hydrants

The information gained from this assessment will be used to produce a detailed map of all water infrastructure in the city that can be used to guide operations and maintenance activities and help the City plan for future capital improvement initiatives. To complete this high-priority project, the City has contracted with the following surveying companies:

  • Craven Thompson & Associates, Inc.
  • Woolpert
  • Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM)
  • Keith & Associates, Inc.
  • M. G. Vera & Associates, Inc.
  • Craig A. Smith & Associates, Inc.
  • InfraMap
  • Zeman Group
  • Ritzel‐Mason
  • McLaughlin Engineering
  • Stoner & Associates

These firms will be utilizing a variety of mapping and utility locating methods to identify all surface and underground water infrastructure that is maintained by the City of Fort Lauderdale. Vehicles belonging to each of these companies will be traveling throughout the City on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

While there are no lane closures or parking impacts expected due to this project, crews will require access to alleyways and streets within gated neighborhoods. Neighbors can expect to see temporary markings on streets, sidewalks, and meter boxes. Mapping efforts are expected to be completed in December 2024. We thank our neighbors for their patience while this important work is underway.
