SAM Wins Contract for Ohio-Based Gas Distribution Company

October 6, 2022

SAM has been awarded a contract by an Ohio-based gas distribution company serving more than one million customers to map gas distribution mains and services. Our crews will provide accurate GPS mapping, including Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and professional survey solutions.

SAM crews will visit facility locations that have been particularly challenging to map. Our team will determine the issues for mapping in that location, devise a plan, implement the solution, and document the procedure used. The documentation will help the client remediate these challenges themselves in the future.

“This is an exciting opportunity that allows us to transition to phase two of the GPS collection work we have been performing for this client since 2015,” said SAM Project Manager Jon Foley. “Utilizing our highly skilled crews, we are now making repairs to restore the traceability of the client’s facilities, allowing their locations to be collected using high-precision GPS and electromagnetic (EM) locating equipment.”

Our crews will map gas mains and services in 3D using real-time kinematics (RTK) GPS and EM utility locating equipment. To provide the mapping information, SAM will ensure that the facility is locatable, using vacuum excavation, trace wire repair, marker devices, and other methods of facility locate repair.

SAM was chosen for this project because of our reputation as a solutions-focused, operator-qualified company with experience in GPS mapping and facility remediation. Our teams have been successfully working with this utility company for years, based on our industry-leading capabilities and proven success providing damage prevention services and support to our clients.
