Jim Straka joined SAM in 2019. He has over 40 years of experience delivering multidisciplinary professional services to plan, finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain public infrastructure. As the East Region Transportation Lead, Jim applies his strategic leadership to the east regions transportation services and works with other leaders to in establishing long-range strategies that support business development initiatives.

Jim is a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, and Washington DC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, both from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He also holds Master of Public Affairs, specializing in Public Policy Analysis and Management, from Indiana University Bloomington. He is an active member of many national, regional, and state associations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, National Society of Professional Engineers, and Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honorary society.

Jim’s favorite core value is People. He has a passion for, and a long-term track record of, identifying, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding team members then working with them as a mentor and coach to advance their professional development. Jim recently relocated to St. Augustine, Florida to support SAM’s Florida Transportation initiative. He has three adult children and one precious grandchild.
