SAM’s Future Workforce

Learn how you can build a rewarding career doing what you love

Not sure what you want to do when you graduate high school? Want a career with room for growth, not just a job? Looking for something stable where you can work outside or be a part of something big?

We invite you to consider a career in geospatial or construction services at SAM. We have leading experts to assist in training and mentoring of those new to our industry.

What are SAM careers all about?

SAM is the nation’s leading provider of geospatial and construction services. That means we gather and provide detailed data about an area of land using the most advanced equipment to help our clients—such as electric utilities, departments of transportation, oil and gas providers, construction companies, telecom providers, architects, and engineers—develop reliable construction plans. Our surveyors are the first team to a construction site, which makes our work critical to building roadways, electric lines, oil and gas pipelines, buildings, bridges, or other structures that are stable and safe. Our construction services teams work throughout a project, and they are often also the last team on a jobsite inspecting the work that has been done to ensure it aligns with plans. That means you’ll have lots of opportunities to build an exciting and rewarding career—one in which you’re actively involved in developing enduring, often high-profile projects for the largest industries in the world.

So, what do you need to do to build a career in surveying and construction services?

Not every career path at SAM is the same, but our employees tend to have at least one of the following characteristics:

A willingness to learn on the job

You do not necessarily need a college degree to work on our surveying and mapping team, but you do need a willingness to learn new things. We’ll pair you with knowledgeable professionals who will mentor you and teach you the skills you need to succeed.

A love of technology

Surveying and construction services often requires us to “see” what lies below the surface or get to difficult-to-access places. That’s where technology comes in. From high-resolution cameras to thermal imaging equipment to drone technology, we use the most advanced, state-of-the-art tech to capture and analyze the information our clients need. We’re always looking for smart, industrious people to test these tools and put them to use in the field.

A desire to see the world

SAM has offices nationwide, and we work for a range of industrial companies—companies involved in placing electric power lines, delivering telecommunications solutions, constructing airports, and buildings of every kind. If you like to travel, you’ll have ample opportunities to connect with new people and explore new places.

An ambition to be a part of something big

SAM teams are a vital part of some of today’s most exciting infrastructure projects. Our team members are often involved from start to finish. It’s a great feeling to drive down a road, walk into a building, or use a utility that you helped build.
